Will the iPad succeed or is it missing the point?
Apple have finally revealed the iPad but does it need to do or be something more, have we been waiting for a laptop without a keyboard. I don't think we have.
When I heard about this I was Will the iPad sucseed or is it missing the point?hoping that it would be a netbook with the power of a laptop plus it would be a photo frame when charging and an eBook reader when in bed and finally an ipod when travelling. Yes I may be asking for a lot but am I if I'm paying out for another laptop as I can't see myself using an iPad all the time...

German Government: Stop using IE
By Daniel Emery Technology Reporter, BBC News
"The German government has warned web users to find an alternative browser to Internet Explorer to protect security. The warning from the Federal Office for Information Security comes after Microsoft admitted IE was the weak link in recent attacks on Google's systems. Microsoft rejected the warning, saying that the risk to users was low and that the browsers' increased security setting would prevent any serious risk. However, German authorities say that even this would not make IE fully safe.
However, Graham Cluley of anti-virus firm Sophos, told BBC News that not only did the warning apply to 6, 7 and 8 of the browser, but the instructions on how to exploit the flaw had been posted on the internet."

Chrome now does extensions; bye bye Firefox
Google Chrome is not only overall better than Firefox, it now supports
[li]Extensions are basically a web page, making them easier to develop. [/li][li]Extensions run as separate processes, thus can be installed, uninstalled, enabled and disabled without restarting Chrome.[/li] [li]They can also be killed from Chrome's task manager.[/li] [li]Extensions are instantly available after submission, since by design they can't do any harm. If the extension uses native code or accesses the file system, it must be submitted for approval. Google still retains a kill-switch for any extension that is found to be malicious.[/li]
So basically Google not only perfected a browser for Windows, Mac and Linux/X/GNU, but they also perfected extensions. I only wish I had Chrome on my iPhone.

Google Chrome OS to be released next week
Google’s Chrome OS project, first announced in July, will become available for download within a week, we’ve heard from a reliable source. Google previously said to expect an early version of the OS in the fall.
What can we expect? Driver support will likely be a weak point. We’ve heard at various times that Google has a legion of engineers working on the not so glamorous task of building hardware drivers. And we’ve also heard conflicting rumors that Google is mostly relying on hardware manufacturers to create those drivers. Whatever the truth, and it’s likely in between, having a robust set of functioning drivers is extremely important to Chrome OS’s success. People will want to download this to whatever computer they use and have it just work.
We expect Google will be careful with messaging around the launch, and endorse a small set of devices for installation. EEE PC netbooks, for example, may be one set of devices that Google will say are ready to use Chrome OS. There will likely be others as well, but don’t expect to be able to install it on whatever laptop or desktop machine you have from day one. Google has previously said they are working with Acer, Adobe, ASUS, Freescale, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, and Toshiba on the project.
We’ve seen convincing and not so convincing screenshots of Chrome OS over the last several months. The good news is the speculation is about to end, and you can try it out yourself. If you have one of the supported devices, that is.
This will definitely be tried out in a virtual machine. A new OS is always fun! :D
